Starting in the summer of 2002 and through the summer of 2004, I was fortunate enough to work with the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum as one of the 3 builders of the replica canal schooner Lois McClure. Together with Paul Rollins, Steve Page, and a large crew of dedicated volunteers, we built a full-scale, fully functional replica of an 1862 class 88' sailing canal boat.
Lois now serves as an educational vessel. She spent her first summer sailing from Lake Champlain down the Hudson to New York City. In the summer of 2007, she embarked on a Grand Canal Journey on the Eerie. When she is in her Lake Champlain home, she moves between ports, hosting school children, tourists, and curious onlookers.
